The Inaugural Issue of TTH Oxford is Complete!

May 31st, 2008 by Jen, President

I am very pleased to announce that the inaugural issue of TTH Oxford is complete and has been sent off to the publishers. All final edits have now been made, and, barring another Royal Mail strike, copies of the magazine should be available in Oxford by 11 June 2008.

The publication will be available both online and in hard copy - if you would like a copy, please drop me an e-mail.

Finally, to whet your appetite, here are some titles you can expect:

Animal Rights, Human Wrongs - Zeeshan Aleem, St Catherine's College

Language: Should English be a Global Lingua Franca? - Frances Cairncross, Rector of Exeter College

Have We Stopped Evolving? - Victor Chong, University of Cambridge

Exit Jury, Enter Neuroscience - Michael Ambler, University College London

...and much more! I hope you are as excited about this as I am, enjoy the magazine when it arrives in less than two weeks time!

Things Coming Together!

October 31st, 2007 by Jen, President

Hello everyone! I hope everyone is preparing to have a great Halloween - with so many parties going on around Oxford, it promises to be a fantastic night for everyone. I am very pleased to report that the publication is coming along extremely well - all eight articles are now in and almost all have been sent to the Faculty Review Board for approval.

In the meantime, the committee have been working very hard to ensure that what comes out next year is a top-notch publication befitting of its status as the inaugural issue of the Oxford chapter of an international organisation. To that end, we have recruited two able and experienced individuals to design and produce the final publication. They are: Tim Monger-Godfrey and Niall Westley.

An Update

September 10th, 2007 by Jen, President

Hello, folks! I must say its been ages since the last update, my apologies for that. Summer has been a fruitful one for OxTTH, with the literary cycle now well underway. We've had six submissions already, with more on the way. On the financial side, we're liaising with companies to secure the sponsorship which will ensure that we are on track for our January 2008 publication.

In other news, I've got a few announcements to make regarding staffing here at OxTTH. Firstly, it is my pleasure to congratulate Emma Butterfield on her appointment as co-EiC. Emma has worked really hard all summer on OxTTH and has been a great source of support and ideas for Meera and myself. It has been great to have such an enthusiastic committee member and I look forward to working more closely with Emma as our literary cycle progresses further. Secondly, we have another appointment to the OxTTH board, Neha Arora, who we welcome in her capacity as Legal Editor. She will be looking into the legalities of our publication, and with her appointment I'm sure we won't have to deal with the hounds post-publication. Last but not least, it is my pleasure to welcome Tanzeem ul Haq abroad our team in his position as Business Associate. I firmly believe that he will make a solid contribution towards securing sponsorship for OxTTH.

That's all for now, thanks for your continued support and stay tuned for more updates!

More Committee Members Appointed

June 3rd, 2007 by Jen, President

Hello again everyone - you may have missed me in the few days without an OxTTH update, although that is probably very unlikely. Regardless, I'm back and bring some fantastic news.

After a week on intensive interviewing, I've appointed the following people to the committee of OxTTH:

Secretary: Sourav Choudhury

Science Editors: Abhishek Banjeree and Emma Butterfield

Senior Editors: Ashish Patel and Chao Quan

Marketing and PR Officer: Jason Arora and Awais Bajwa

Associate Editors: Mohsin Khan, Felicity Soper and Ben Wallace

Business Associate: Kashif Saleem and Ravi Kalia

I will add more individuals to the list once they accept / reject any offers of appointment. May I just take this opportunity to thank everyone who applied. Meeting with all of you was a most enlightening experience and the standard of applicants was so high it made selection a very difficult task. It is my feverent hope that those of you who were not offered committee positions will still take an active interest in OxTTH and participate as much as possible in order to make the journal a great success in January.

With best wishes for the coming exams,

Jen

Welcome On Board!

May 28th, 2007 by Jen, President

I would just like to take this opportunity to welcome Mandish Singh Muker to the board of OxTTH. Mandish is a second year student studying Engineering, Economics and Management at St Catherine's College. I'm sure he will be a valuable addition to the team in his capacity as Business Manager, and personally look forward to working closely with him.

Meanwhile, interviews for other positions are still on-going. The deadline for applications is Friday of 7th Week, so get moving and apply! Best of luck to all applicants, I certainly know that everyone I've interviewed thus far has been most impressive.

In other news, the website problems some of you may have seen lately have finally been fixed - whew. They were in part due to a server migration which I initiated a couple of days ago. The website is now fully functional, so play around with it and look out for more exciting content once exams are over.

Cheers and goodnight,

Jen

Facebook Group

May 26th, 2007 by Jen, President

I'm going for a hat-trick of posts today. For the interested amongst you, OxTTH has a facebook group, which just gives me a rough indication as to how many people within the university are taking an interest in TTH. Click here to see the group (you must be logged into a Facebook account), and do feel free to join it at any point.

Internet Explorer

May 26th, 2007 by Jen, President

Hello again, everyone. It has just come to my attention that the website is not working properly for people who have Internet Explorer. If possible, please try to view this website with Mozilla Firefox - it seems to work fine. I'm working on fixing the problem, but it is going to take time with exams around the corner.

Have a nice day, everyone, and happy revising.

Big things ahead

May 26th, 2007 by Jen, President

Good day (literally!) everyone! Things are moving very quickly here at OxTTH. We’ve secured half the amount of money needed to bring out a large-scale production in January 2008. A new Chief Editor, Meera, has been appointed, and we’re also very lucky to have the talented Kim on board as treasurer. Quite a sizeable number of incredible people with staggering ideas have asked to write for the journal, with articles ranging from global health policy through to education and also controversial issues bound to get you thinking. Writers aren’t whole without their editors, though, and we’ve had quite a few enquiries regarding those positions. Never the less there are still lots of open positions so don’t miss this fabulous opportunity to be on the committee for one of the most exciting publications of 2008! We are particularly aiming to have a Business Manager and a Secretary by the end of Trinity Term 2007 (That’s end of June for the non-Oxford -going among you), so get those emails sent!

PS: We are hoping to secure the time of a very well-known individual, the identity of whom is being kept under wraps for now. If we are successful, we guaruntee you will be fighting over the final publication. Watch this space.

TTH Undergoes Restructuring

July 12th, 2006 by Phil Bradley, COO Europe

The Triple Helix has completed it’s review of its structure and announced a new organisational plan designed to give TTH the flexibility and scalability it needs in order to achieve its international ambitions.

The new plan does away with the current “US” and “International” bipartite chapter grouping, replacing it instead with four regional networks - North America, Europe, Asia and Australia. The regional networks governing bodies, which will coordinate the region’s chapters, answer to a central Board of Directors.

Editing, Production and ePublishing remain centralised, ensuring coordinated efforts across the whole organisation. Recruitment to the various new positions is now underway.

A diagram of the new structure, complete with notes and a timeline for the transition to the new structure, is available on request (email address on the Contacts page)

ePublishing Division recruiting writers

June 9th, 2006 by Phil Bradley, COO Europe

Responsible for the writing and publishing of student-written articles on The Triple Helix’s website, the ePublishing Division is currently looking for more contributors from Oxford.

The articles are fairly short (~300 - 400 word), covering recent events in the scientific world. The website receives around 400 visitors a day. Successful articles in the past have been known to attract over 12,000 readers overnight!

If youd like to get involved in writing for the website, please contact Jen.
